I’ll Be dog-gone!

March 27, 2013

Good dogs are with us for a little while to teach us how to love, like its our job, because it is!

Oh, I so much like making doggie doodles, labra-doodles and hound doodles!!!  These series of dog cards are custom-made.

This week on my blog I am highlighting Week #13 – LIFE’S simple pleasuresfamily pets.

I enjoy being given the challenge to design creative greetings for family friends who have special pets in their lives!  I try to doodle the essence of the pet …. and sometimes these cards become my favorites!

Recently, our neighborhood has lost many four-legged friends. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge, (<—click on that link and bring a tissue) ! Special friends: Charlie, Buddy, Kozmo, Maizo, Daisy & Zelda.

Brighten Someone’s Day…. with a creative greeting by prdesigns!

PS: still in ‘blogover’ mode…. changes happening daily!  Excuse my design challenges!!!

From the beginning to the end… an American English Idiom which has a figurative meaning for a meal from the first course, until the dessert.  It can mean  to be all-inclusive from start to finish in a project or task as well.

soup1As part of my year of 2013 and discovering or re-discovering LIFE’S Simple Pleasures… I broke down the letters in LIFE’S to:

  • L earning
  • I nspiring
  • F eeling
  • E volving
  • S hining

I love to learn and try new things.  I’ve been expanding my cooking talents and along with baking cookies, I’ve been experimenting with a simple pleasure ~ comfort foods, which includes soups.  Above is one of our delicious meals of Chicken Bacon & Wild Rice Soup.

Now don’t be fooled, although soup is a liquid food, technically we ‘eat’ it because we use a spoon.  And remember, broth based soups have fewer calories than milk/cream/cheese based soups.

meals 001Comfort foods provide nostalgia or sentimental feelings.  The phrase was added to Websters dictionary in 1977.  Often comfort foods are soft in consistency and rich in calories, they also pique emotions.  Although kind of mushy looking, that is exactly what our dinner was one night, slider bbq pork sandwiches, Kraft Macaroni and cheese and crispy tater tots.  Easy to prepare but not necessarily calorie FREE!

nutHere are the nuts!!!!! Which is really a fruit?  it is composed of a hard shell and a seed pod.

Week #12 – LIFE’S simple pleasures comfort foods.

Now if you wanted, there are over 82 choices of Campbell’s soups and who knows how many other brands and flavors.  And with grilled cheese, it used to be a slice or two of Kraft American cheese on white bread…. now the varieties of cheeses are endless and add to that the different kinds of artisian breads.

I had a few friends respond to my request that a good old fashioned bowl of *tomato soup and a toasty grilled cheese sandwich was something that made them very happy!  Simple, right?  Let’s just go back with the *basic simple pleasures!  But I’m just saying, there are so many choices these days… you really have to seek the simple ones!!

Winter is the time   for comfort   for good food   and Warmth  for the touch   of a friendly hand  and for a talk beside the fire  it is the time   for home. ~ Edith Sitwell

I’d love for you to leave a comment.  What is your favorite comfort food and does it provide a sentimental feeling?

PAUSE, for a moment please

uglyweek11Okay, my active verb this week on DO52 is pause… it’s only Monday of Week #12 and I’m not quite ready to post a simple pleasure… and I’m in the middle of taking an online class to work on the layout of my blog… so, in the mean time… you can enjoy one of my UGLY paintings… yes! I meant to paint this and I’m learning to embrace my inner UGLY… and yes it is that!  I like pretty things… this was quite a challenge to be UGLY!

So, please excuse my dust as I try to create even MORE fun on my blog!  Have a great Mondy…Peggy :0)

Good Artists … Copy

January 31, 2013

Great artists… steal!

Today I’m happy to share another page from my art journal.  Although I ‘get’ shade and highlight… I don’t always get it in my mind’s eye.  But, I think I copy really well when I see it step by step.

I used to draw more like this in college, and forgot what it was like to work on portraits.  An online class I’m taking is helping me to rediscover all kinds of art.  It’s part of LIFEbook 2013.

SHINE brightly

The dilemma … I struggle with them daily.

There are those who don’t want to talk about it. Many are torn, words can’t even form, tears are constant. I have read so much now…. some are numb. I have no answers.  Be a part of the solution not add to the problems.  Maybe if we ignore it, it will seem like it never happened.  There is evil in the world.  What good of any can come from this?  We need stricter laws.  More locks on the doors.  Be suspicious of everyone. Sometimes there are no good answers.  Love one another.  Be kind.  Think before you act.  Just do it! Why?

And… life does go on… differently than before.

In my corner of the world I can try even harder to SHINE brightly.  I believe and trust, and hope… to never get tired of doing little things for others.  Sometimes those little things occupy the biggest part of their hearts ♥

The College Kid

Since I am creating the “new” blog, I might as well include updates for any of you friends and family who wonder over here, since I directed you to do so in my annual Christmas Card.

Newsy letter or not? You can decide if/when you come here to visit. I’m saving a tree (is that true? or just a spin on a typical holiday comment) Or, am I keeping up with technology?

If you scrolled this far down, here today is our College boy. So proud! He is a sophome at the University of Chicago at Iowa…. ha ha! That is was some here in northern Illinois are calling it. There are so many students attending Univ. of Iowa from the Chicago burbs, it has it’s own, really funny name. Sad but true!

It was bitter sweet again to send him off to college last August, we took a Budget Rental truck to move ‘stuff’ to his off campus apartment. As far as we can tell, and the stories we have heard, he is pretty happy. Right now he is focusing on Business/Economics studies. All we can do is hope and pray that the US changes a bit in the next couple of years and there is a place for him to work… pay taxes and pay off his college debt!!!

Lazy Deer

Lazy Deer

Cardmaking during holidays is so much fun!!! There are so many ways to go during Christmas time, the season of winter, snowmen, snowflakes… the list goes on. This card has a little bit of everything. What is even better are all the fun ideas from blogs, to holiday catalogs, to instagram pics.

Well, it’s December 5th and the cold weather is upon us once again! We had some balmy temperatures hit the beginning of the week… O’hare recorded a high of almost 70 degrees. Not that I believe in Global Warming… I do believe that we have more technology to record the flux of temperatures. There are more factors that impact where populations grow and multiply. The world is evolving and ever changing…I won’t be surprised if we get blizzards of snow falls, or we hardly have any flurries… that is one job I would not want, predictions.

Give me something crafty and I’m all warm about it! Thanks for stopping in! Remember to Brighten Someone’s Day…. creative greetings by prdesigns is one good way to do just that!!!

Okay, I admit it, I’m a little emotional… no!

… I am a lot emotional! *more on that to come*

So, when I saw a post on Facebook this morning from a momfriend who lives in an entire different part of the country, and she was talking about her little one year old who looked out the front door and for the first time noticed a Christmas bell decoration, and said “Wow”…. I couldn’t help but tear up from all my own old memories of my little ones… and instantly I thought of a card, this card!  A definite prdesigns original!!

It’s amazing that all it takes to see the ‘sparkle’ is one word seen through the eyes of a child, who only says, “wow”.

This puts… life, Christ, Christmas, being kind, compassion, love, friendship… you name anything good, great and awesome into a great perspective… new eyes… and just say out loud…. wow!

A big fan of WOW!  Peggy
