Spring has Finally Sprung

April 1, 2013

Okay, what am I doing back here on my on WordPress account. Seriously???? I don’t know!

I’ve been taking this on-line class for the past two weeks with Jessica Sprague ‘Bloom Your Blog’ and I’m learning all sorts of fun things…. and then I hit a road block of downloads, and I’m stuck. And now I feel like I’m torn between this blog prdesigns on blogger, and the one I started with LIFE’S simple pleasures HERE at WordPress Creative Greetings. So guess what? Two blogs for the price of one until I can make up my mind!

It’s Week #14 and this week I will explore the obvious in our our neck of the woods – SPRING

Week #14 – LIFE’S simple pleasuresSPRING

easterspring 002

Now this topic can include the weather, the season, spring break, Easter, all things that bloom… there are any wide variety of topics to touch upon.

This is one of my vary favorite Cooper cards…. down dog position with the hoppy floppy ears. Didn’t send out many Easter cards this year. Oh well, the good thing about most creative greetings… they are timeless!!

Spring time means lots of walks throughout our county in the Conservatory Park District. We never knew up until last year that there were so many parks in our county. More of that on a later post, but we found all these by happenstance when we started Geocaching. Since we had almost 60 degree weather and sunshine (both together) for the first time this year… we were out on the hunt. More about Geocaching later as well.

Sorry about all the glare and reflection, but in a way that’s a real good thing. What you are supposed to see is that the thermometer reads 61 degrees out… granted, it was in the sunshine when I read this, but I will take this reading over any 20 degree reading any day.

We actually had our first spring days of 2013. The sky was blue, the sun was shining, the birds were chirping and it really felt like a new beginning! What a simple pleasure!

Week #13 – LIFE’S simple pleasuresa warm puppy

Oh, it doesn’t exactly have to be a warm puppy, it could be any family pet.  There are many families who are dog lovers, or cat lovers… or any other kind of domesticated animal lover.  And there are some families that are highly allergic, travel outside of the home often or just don’t want another ‘thing’ to take care.  And that’s alright!!! We’re a two dog family and we love our furbabies! And I especially love to give other fur babies hugs and enjoy their excitement when we meet on a walk!

The more people I meet, the more I like my dog – anonymous

Hopefully, in upcoming blog posts, I can highlight some of my other animal creative greeting cards. Sometimes, the animals can state a sentiment so much sweeter!

Yesterday was a dog.  Today I’m a dog. Tomorrow I’ll probably still be a dog.  sigh, there’s so little hope for advancement – Snoopy

PS – stay tuned for more changes… I’m still in blogover (makeover) mood and my blog layout and design is in chaos!!!  Happy Easter!

My Dog Licked this Post

March 26, 2013

Good dogs are with us for a little while to teach us how to love like it’s our job… because it is!

I’m doing a ‘blogover’… another new word I learned… just like ‘bookfessions’ (confessions of a book addict) from Week #5.

A ‘blogover‘ is like a makeover for your blog, and since I’m in the middle of a on-line class “Bloom Your Blog” with Jessica Sprague, every day I’m learning something new through Photo Shop and my WordPress blog site…so don’t be surprised when you come back tomorrow and this page looks different once again!

tuckerWeek #13 – LIFE’S simple pleasuresa furry family member.

Not everyone is a dog, cat, gerbil, hedgehog, guinea pig, lizard lover.  I admit that daily care and up keep of two dogs can be tiresome at times, Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our life whole!

Tucker is a Pomeranian, a Pom or a Pom Pom (or Kujo).  As far as we know he is a pure bred dog, but there are no papers or family history on him since he is a rescue/shelter dog.  His breed is considered the Spitz type and is from Northern Poland/Eastern Germany and named from the area.  He is considered a toy dog, so that means bred smaller and is very friendly and lively.  They bond very quickly with their owners and are very protective.  Our Tucker is very bossy too!!!  Every day I just look at him, and 4 years later he melts my heart with such adorable expressions!

Here’s Cooper again!  I love these dog poses from the nose angle… there are bunches of these all over the internet. Cooper is a mongrel, a mutt, a mixed breed dog.  Mongrel sounds really derogatory…. better…. he’s a Heintz 57 or better yet a Bitzer…. bits o’ this, bits o’ that!!!  Often with a mixed breed dog you will identify him with the breed they most resemble, in this case, a Labrador Retriever.

My dogs have been a great source of inspiration.  I created my own doodle of each of them and now try to put them in different surroundings to create fun cards with sassy sentiments!  I’ve doodled other friends dogs and created faux card lines exclusively for them.  I’ll show you a few of those in my up-coming posts, so stay tuned and come back and visit my creative twist of LIFE’S simple pleasures!!!

Some days you’re the dog, some days you’re the hydrant!

Puppy Love

March 25, 2013

I aspire to be the person my dog thinks I am! Meet my new friend

Can you believe we are at Week #13?  That makes us a quarter through 2013!!  I am exploring LIFE’s simple pleasurespets. I don’t want to limit a simple pleasure to just the animals I have around my house.  Pets, although they need lots of time, attention and care, can bring so much joy and love to a house, to a family…. to a home.  Pet lovers are a different breed.tuckerHappiness is a warm puppy!!!  ~ Charles Schultz

springdogsCooper, our lab mix will be 8 years old this year.  Our big guy, he has the sweetest disposition and has been the best of friends! He’s beginning to slow down a bit and is getting some grey around his muzzle.  He loves to lounge on the steps in the sunshine.  Just with his eyes he tells me what he needs!

Tucker is our fuzzy bear and he is a 5-year-old Pomeranian.  We rescued him from a holistic dog shelter when he was 11 months old and he has many nicknames…. Tuck, Tucky, Fozzy Bear, Buddy and my favorite Kujo!  He’s tiny, but feisty and he lets you know when he’s not very happy!  When we walk him, neighbors who don’t know him want to steal him away because I’ll admit, he is very cute…. they just don’t know that it all is an act!! The words, don’t bite the hand that feeds you, not in his vocabulary!!!

That’s the college boy  {we’ve had him since the day he was born, ha ha} (who will be 20) with our furbabies on a walk in the woods last week during his spring break.  A boy and his dogs, very heart warming, don’t you think?

Week #13 – LIFE’S simple pleasuressome puppy love!

Stuffed w/ Love♥

February 4, 2013

Teddy Bears don’t need hearts as they are already stuffed with love!

Week #6 ~ LIFE’S simple pleasures – Teddy Bears*

If you are new to my blog, welcome!  If you have been following me on my journey into 2013, it’s another new week.  As part of many ‘new’ things for the new year, one of mine is to really explore the simple things in LIFE;  every day happenings, happy things that bring a smile to my face, stuff that’s FREE or inexpensive… it’s all around me…us… if we take a moment and look for it!

This week I saw my cute teddy bear hanging around and he brings such a smile to my face.  I love the iconic stuffed toy named after President Theodore Roosevelt. My bear’s name is DuePur

He’s almost 25 years old.  Not originally mine.  He’s here due to sentimental cuteness.  He was given as a gift.  His name is Purdue mixed around.  He signifies love and was given to my then boyfriend, now husband as a welcome home gift when his plane landed from a Purdue NCAA game back in 1988.

He’s comforted me through 2 children and a few household moves… and is still in perfect shape!  Maybe this week we’ll do a few super model shoots with DuePur in special places.  Stay tuned!

rocky1And now for the awwww factor.  Even Tucker has his very own soft friend (* this simple pleasure can be really any soft toy, all the better if it has been stitched up with extra love).  It’s a racoon that looks like roadkill.  Appropriately named Rocky… don’t mess with Tucker when he has Rocky… you might lose a finger!

A Teddy Bear is a faithful friend
You can pick him up from either end
His fur is the color of breakfast toast
And he’s always there when you need him most.

A Teddy Bear can comfort someone’s day… and of course Brighten it as well!!!! Peggy

A little Tropical Punch

January 2, 2013

Our family recently returned from a holiday in a tropical paradise in the Dominican Republic.  Beverages are a ‘plenty’ at an all-inclusive resort.  One of LIFE’s simple pleasures is trying different drinks that you normally don’t have all the ingredients to make yourself.  Tropical fruity names that are familiar are: Bahama Mama, Mai Tai, Rum Punch, Tequila Sunrise, Zombie, Pina Colada, Hurricane and daiquiri…. just to name a few!

A local favorite is a Mamajuana!  I think they just like saying it!  But they do however manufacture a lot of rum in the Dominican Republic, and of course export this beverage of rum, red wine and honey.  We did try it a few times.  I heard that it is both a medicinal concoction, as well as an aphrodisiac!

The name itself refers to the type of bottle it comes in, a large squat bottle with a short narrow neck, covered with wicker.  What gives it a unique flavor is the mixture of bark and herbs that they soak in the rum for up to a week.

I guess you are supposed to drink it as a shot, but our glasses were always a small snifter with ice.  We would take that first sip, swallow and then shake our head, scrunch our nose and take a deep sigh… it was pretty strong!

Some of my Friends are big Flakes

December 14, 2012

snowman 002Do I dare admit that some of my favorite men are SNOW men!?!?!  I love them!  I have a big collection!  I would collect more, I guess… if I were into collecting more things to dust! Ha Ha I have a very select few out this season… and it’s really okay!

Although I love this picture of my furry big boy Cooper (he turned 7 this year)… I could really do without the snow! Actually, this is a picture from one of our late snowfalls of last season, I think it was March 2012.  I built the snowman, just because I could!  No better reason than that!!

decemberphone 011Creative Greeting cards with doodles of snowmen are even MORE fun, if that is even possible!!!!  Look here, two punched out circles, a perfectly placed snowflake accent, carrot for the nose a few sticks for arms… and something simply adorkable turns out!!! Snowman cards are one of my favorite to make!!  Instagram additions or apps make this card artsy!! I like that too!snowman 001I could just squeal with delight! Look at this amazing sock snowman!  I was scrolling through Pinterest and I saw my next project (above) from a cute blog Then She Made. Isn’t he adorable?? And no wet slushy stuff involved.  Just two old socks, some rice for his innards, twine and buttons, all stuff I had in my stash.  Heated up my glue gun and in about 15 minutes I created this dapper man!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow… somewhere else!
